Say No to Benton Shelter
Save Our Neighborhood!
The County is turning Lawrence & Benton into another low-barrier homeless shelter! Barely 0.5 miles north, County is already building a homeless shelter at the previous Bella Vista Inn site. Do we need two homeless shelters in this area, where we have many daycares, schools, parks and residential homes?

The proposed location poses a significant safety threat to nearby schools

The proposed location also poses a tremendous safety threat to nearby residents
At the first ZOOM hearing on February 13, the team members in charge of the project introduced that there are 80-120 container shelters on Lawrence & Benton, which will "serve a lot of people re-entering from jail and other institutions", according to Brian Greenberg, VP of LifeMoves.
Consuelo, the Director of the Office of Supportive Housing, SCCounty, also added: "I will kick it off just by saying ..interim housing we do like to provide low barrier entry...people with criminal background will be permitted to stay”. At the same time, the shelter here is only provided for single or childless couples.
